Summer fun at Frost Fire Theatre

KILE BREWER | GRAND FORKS HERALD

Frost Fire Theatre guests enjoy the show, "Smokey Joe's cafe," Wednesday afternoon during the start of the theatre's last week of performances for the summer.

WALHALLA, N.D. — For 30 years, Judy and Dick Johnson have hosted a summer musical theater at the Frost Fire Ski and Snowboard Area so people have something to enjoy when there’s no snow.

With only three performances left in the 2014 season, the Johnsons said the production of “Smokey Joe’s Café” is one of the best they’ve had in recent years.

“It’s grown so much and the shows have always been good,” Dick said.

A Grammy Award-winning and Tony-nominated musical, the production is presented by a nine-person cast and a sixperson pit orchestra and pays tribute to nearly 40 rock ‘n’ roll songs.

“The choreography is so important, along with the music,” Judy said. “People have seemed to really love it.”

Upcoming shows are 6p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday and Wednesday.
